There is no single best airline for every pet. A useful comparison starts with your animal, route, and travel dates. This guide is published by DIY PET TRAVEL, which sells optional concierge assistance; it is not an independent review site or an airline ranking.

Use the same questions for each airline Create a comparison sheet with one column per option. Record the date you checked each answer and link to the airline’s official policy. Leave an answer blank until it is confirmed rather than filling it from memory.

Compare the actual journey - Which airline operates each flight, including a codeshare? - Is your pet’s species and travel category accepted on this route? - Is pet space available for the date and flight you want? - Does the carrier fit the relevant aircraft and seating arrangement? - What paperwork and advance notice does this trip need? - How is the pet or service dog request linked to the booking? - What are the current fees and the change or cancellation terms?

Keep comfort and logistics visible A low ticket price may come with a connection that makes the trip harder to manage. Consider check-in arrangements, the time available between flights, and the amount of luggage one traveler can reasonably handle. Treat these as planning tradeoffs, not a promise that a particular schedule is safe for every animal.

Compare like with like An ordinary pet traveling in a cabin carrier and a qualified handler traveling with a task-trained service dog use different processes. Do not compare a pet fee with an unrelated service-dog portal requirement as though they are interchangeable. Read our portal and certification explainer if that distinction is unclear.

Choose with current information Keep the winning option’s policy and confirmation in your trip folder. Recheck details if the flight or aircraft changes. We can help make the calls and document the answers through our travel concierge, while you retain approval over purchases and the airline retains its acceptance decisions.
